Education Training Challenges and Opportunities

Background

Mr. Modisha of Far North Education and Training Trust (FNETT) and Dr. Khomo of INJINGA Business Incubation Entrepreneur Development (IBIED) have been exploring collaboration in areas such as ICT Training and Venture Creation. They have known each other for over a decade within the education sector, and the post-COVID recovery period has reignited efforts for meaningful collaboration.

FNETT and INJINGA are jointly developing a concept that leverages INJINGA’s strengths in curriculum development and technology transfer, and FNETT’s broad network in training facilitation. This partnership aims to amplify impact in the education and entrepreneurial sectors.

The course duration has been revised from one month to 10 days to better maintain learner engagement, while retaining the depth and impact of the curriculum.

New Opportunity

Both institutions are adapting to a post-pandemic context. INJINGA has shifted to remote and extra-mural formats, while FNETT seeks to revive its facilities as central hubs for training networks, rather than just delivery points for specific industries.

Executive Summary

A new 2-week entrepreneurship training crash program is set for September 2024, targeting 20 trainees in two groups of 10. It combines academic insight with hands-on entrepreneurial training in agriculture, construction, and IT. Learners will develop real-world business ideas, equipping them with the agility needed in today's education and training landscape.

FNETT and INJINGA hold accredited IP in the following areas:

INJINGA contributes the BIED Certificate in Entrepreneurial Practice (CEP), bridging FET and Higher Education levels. It also supports ABET (NQF1) learners in accessing further education or trade apprenticeships.

Partnerships and Client Relations

Stakeholders will have access to published intervention outcomes. However, elements still under development may not be formally verified. Interested parties may liaise with FNETT and IBIED to obtain additional metrics or reporting tools.
